You are right- it is a huge commitment to take your child/children to the NBB. Our advice is:
-If you have decided to go, then enjoy it to the fullest and view it as an INVESTMENT. No matter what place your child gets, you + your family will be impacted by the powerful Word of God and the incredible fellowship you will experience.
-Meet others and enjoy the incredible people at the NBB! You may very well meet friends for life, and this is an amazing opportunity to get to know Christians from all over the US.
-Pack your own food as much as possible, as this helps keep costs lower. We love individual bags of crackers and chips, hummis, granola bars, fruit, veggies, etc. We usually try to focus on healthy foods and even "brain foods"- foods that are specifically good for brain function, as the kids need all the help they can get to keep their mind clear! Sugar can cause fatigue, brain fog, headaches, and cravings so we usually steer clear of sugary foods as much as possible for that week.

And most of all thank the Lord that you have this amazing opportunity! You will love it!

Hi there, – if time permits I'm curious if your family has any tips for a newly attending family for the Bee. We are going this year with a son who has qualified. Because of the location and venue, it is a large financial commitment for our family (we live on a farm too!) How do you handle meals for a large family for a week at a snazzy hotel? Ideas? Thrifty thoughts?

I know this is VERY late, but congrats to Taylor! I hope to do this BB this year (2017). And it was all because of Taylor…well, all of you! Thanks so much for it. Is there anything I should know? You guys have know all about it.
Good job to Taylor, again, but also to all the Bontrager kids and those who did the study. Fantastic job and hope to see you all again next year.
Chelsy, beautiful post and it was very encouraging. Taylor's humbleness about winning is beyond words.

In reply to Rachael. Oh and I should have mentioned this before, but we were talking to my aunt, the one with the 4 little kiddos, the week after Nationals. They were watching because of Celia, but they kept tabs on y'all as well(they met y'all at the concert). Anyways, she said that one time, I think during senior finals, she had to walk away, and when she came back her boys were running to meet her saying "the Bontragers made it!!" they would also cheer "go Bontrager!" because they couldn't remember the guy's names:) I thought I would share that with y'all!

CHELS!!! I love this recap-it was SO AMAZING to be there in person and experience Nationals for the first time! (I recognize quite a few photos in here too:) Thank y'all so much for getting us into the BB. It has changed my life, even for the 2 years I was in it! I am so thankful that my younger siblings can do it more years. The treasure that any BBeer has gained in the study and memorization of the WORD is invaluable and I am so grateful.
This post has so many sweet memories. SOOOO much happy:)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I think that the thing that makes Bible Bee a little different from most activities is that, from the point of the time spent, there is literally no loss. Time spent in the WORD is always effective, always blessed, always a good thing.
Now, if the competition part, the money, got to be the main thing, that would definitely mean it had become an idol.
It is a challenge to our students to always be checking their motives and making sure they are participating out of a heart of desire for the Word, not for fame or money.
