Resources for Researching Health and Nutrition

In response to a comment asking me what resources I use for researching health, I am going to tell you about a book  that has quickly become a favorite.  I hope to review some other resources in future blog posts.

On the very top of the list is “Nutrition 101”.  (you can click HERE to get this amazing book for yourself.) This book is fascinating, educational, thoroughly researched, and beautiful! Imagine an interesting Science textbook, a recipe book with delicious and healthy recipes, a read aloud book for the entire family, and a unit study on the systems of the body plus many colorful pictures/diagrams, fun experiments,  and Scripture verses and you have “Nutrition 101”!

This book includes 6 Units (divided into chapters) on each of the systems of the body which include 1. The Brain & Nervous System
2. The Digestive System
3. The Respiratory, Olfactory, Auditory, and Visual Systems
4. The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
5. The Cardiovascular and Immune Systems
6. The Endocrine System and Emotions
Each unit is filled with diagrams, color pictures, & foods that support that specific system, diseases of the system and their prevention, and much more. At the end of each chapter are Discussion Questions, Activities, Recipes, and Additional Resources.

I have been reading this book aloud to our 3 children still in school.  One of our favorite sections is the “Fun Fact” in each chapter.  Some of the “fun facts” we have learned are that each day you breathe about 20,000 times, the longest attack of hiccups lasted 68 years, and our bone marrow produces two million red blood cells every second.

One of the best features of the book are its 31 Appendixes. These informational appendixes cover  Asthma, Household Toxins, Sleep, Spices, Supplements, Fiber Rich Foods, and many more educational and helpful topics.

When I think about how much my children and I have learned already (we are on page 149 of this 447 “how-to manual on health and nutrition”), I will say that it has been worth every dollar I spent on “Nutrition 101”. Don’t let the $84.95 price tag keep you from making this investment that could change you and your families.

You can purchase your own by clicking HERE.

  1. Thank you for this recommendation! I really like that it is for the whole family. I think it is so important that we teach our children good nutrition facts. I was never taught that growing up, and it took quite a bit of trial and error as a young adult. Now as a more mature adult (ahem), I see the importance of teach wise decisions early.

  2. We took a couple years to slowly go through Nutrition 101 with our five kids. We really enjoyed it and learned quite a bit too. It will be a book that we will keep and refer to again and again. We had fun trying the different recipes and understanding how important they were to the part of the body that we were learning about. We recommend it too!

  3. 802670 881554This design is spectacular! You clearly know how to maintain a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (nicely, almostHaHa!) Fantastic job. I genuinely enjoyed what you had to say, and a lot more than that, how you presented it. Too cool! 814320
